Chapter Six

I awoke early the next morning, feeling energized despite my muscles still being sore from the previous night. Tina lay asleep beside me wearing a smile of contentment.

She was so beautiful. I still didn’t see what in the world she saw in me. Right now, at this moment, I was the luckiest guy in the world.

But I knew the clock was ticking and soon it’d be over. And if I thought it felt bad last time, these new experiences with her had me contemplating if I’d even be able to live through it.

Her breasts were rising and falling gently as she breathed in slow and deep. What did she say earlier? That we’d somehow always find a way? God I hoped it was true. But I just couldn’t see it happening. Way too many logistics to work out.

I ran my fingertips along her arm and up over shoulder, past her neck, finally brushing a loose strand of hair back behind her ear. She shifted slightly, the corner of her lips turning upwards.

A sleeping angel sent from heaven. I snorted. She may have been heaven sent but she came with more than a little devil inside her, praise the lord.

Heaving a huge sigh I rolled off the bed. I needed a distraction and a shower sounded like the right ticket. Good on the muscles.

I padded over to the bathroom and jumped in the stall. I cranked the water up to hot and stood there, allowing the water to splash and invigorate the knots and sore spots.

A full ten minutes later I shut off the water and stepped out, feeling refreshed. I grabbed a towel off the rack and began to rub it in my hair when I heard a voice.

It sounded like Tina. Who was she talking to? Herself? Curious, I wrapped the towel around my waist in case someone else had come into our room.

I turned the corner from the bathroom to find Tina sitting up in bed, her back resting on the array of pillows stacked against the headboard. She shook her head, her cell phone to her ear.

“I can’t believe you’re calling. What the hell.”

Tina saw me and rolled her eyes big time, an exasperated expression crossing her face.

“No, I thought I made myself clear.”

I sat on the bed and brought my hand up to touch her arm. I mouthed, “What’s wrong?”

She lowered the cell slightly and mouthed back, “Joe.”

Figured. Probably missed her and wanted her to come home. Worried what she was doing. In a small way I couldn’t blame him. I’d miss her, too. But I also knew Tina’s determination when she wanted something her way.

“I’m not listening. No, no. I’m hanging up.”

A wicked thought shot through my brain and I quickly put my hand up to shake it back and forth. “No, don’t,” I whispered.

Tina looked at me quizzically.

“Let’s have some fun,” I continued in a soft tone.

Tina still wasn’t getting what I had in mind. Joe must have said something because she suddenly said, “Yeah, I’m still here, where would I have gone?”

God I loved her snarky tone.
